KeiScout maintains a structured database of Kei vehicle titling, registration, and road-use requirements for all 50 states and Washington, D.C. This page explains how that database is built and maintained.

Primary sources first

Every state entry is intended to be grounded in primary sources — state statutes, administrative codes, Department of Motor Vehicles and Department of Transportation publications, and official guidance. We do not treat forum posts, hearsay, or dealer marketing as authoritative.

Verification and dating

Each verified state record carries a Last Verified date and links to the official sources used. Kei vehicle policy is actively changing in many states, so a status without a recent verification date is treated as provisional.

Why some states show “Research Pending”

Where we have not yet completed primary-source verification for a state, we display Research Pending rather than publish an unverified legal classification. We would rather show nothing than show something wrong. Verified state pages are being added on a rolling basis.
